Twenty Typefaces that Changed the World was a university project focused on editorial design and utilising systems. We were given the opportunity to create a type specimen with a typeface of our choice. I chose Mondwest by Pangram Pangram Foundry.
The Mondwest takes the heart and aesthetic of a typical Bitmap font and combines it with fundamentals of a classic Serif. The created mix from the principles of these two fonts which are on essentially opposite aesthetic ends of the spectrum creates a futuristic yet timeless feel, enabling it to be quite the versatile font.
Mondwest is crafted for maximum legibility, versatility and pairing capacity with a classic Serif. Inherently the digitalisation was pushed further reimagining timeless classic Serifs to a more futuristic/brutalist yet precise aesthetic. Marchal intrinsically curated a meticulously crafted bitmap typeface to uplift designs with a seemingly futuristic (or perhaps digitally historic) twist on a typical Serif.
